Acura NSX information:

Honda NSX was manufactured by Honda Motor Company and in North American and Hong Kong it was marketed as Acura NSX. As a sports model it was manufactured originally by Honda and the production of the first generation was carried out from 1990 to 2005. It was sold in 2-door coupe body style and featured a V-6 all aluminium gasoline engine. It also featured the VTEC Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control and had a mid-engine real-wheel-drive layout. The highly rumored second generation of the NSX was introduced as a concept vehicle in 2012. Now the car is schedule to go in to production starting from 2015.

Models and Features

The first generation Acura NSX was manufactured at the Takanezawa R&D Plant from 1990 to 94 and at Suzuka R&D Plantfrom 2004 to 2005. The engine layout design was transversely mounted with rear wheel drivetrain. The first generation NSXs were offered t two engine variants namely the 2977cc V6 and the 3179cc V6. The transmission used for these engines were 4-speed automatic and 5 $ 6 speed manual transmission. The first generation NSX coupe had a wheelbase of 99.6 inches. The initial models weighed 3010 lbs that in 91-92 and it was gradually increased to 2809 lbs by 1997. The Honda NSX was specially designed by the Italian designer pininfarina to create the HP-X in 1984 and it had a configuration of mid-mounted 2.0 L V-6 engines. The prototype NS-X was developed from the HP-X and eventually the production model was designed by the Ken Okuyama, the chief engineer and his team. Originally Honda was targeting the Ferrari 328 and wanted the NSX to match its performance. In order to achieve that it replaced the 2.0 L with a powerful 3.0 VTEC V6 engine. The 3.60 degree visibility was improved and modeled it on the cockpit of the F-16 by chief engineer.  The cab forward design of the NS-X also helped to maximize visibility while the design of the long tail made sure that directional stability is maintained on high speeds. Overall the NSX design was aimed to project the advanced Honda automotive technologies.

The highlight of the NS-X production car was that it had an all aluminium monocoque body incorporated with a suspension and frame made by all new extruded alumiunium alloy. This drastically reduced the weight of the vehicle by 200kg and another 20 kg was saved by its aluminium suspension. Other features included the 4-channel anti-lock brake independent system, connecting rods made of titanium for the engine to perform high rpm revs, power steering electrical operated and the variable valve timing system of the Honda’s VTEC and in a first an electronic throttle control integrated in 1995.

Huge amount of money was spend on the NS-X’s  development by Honda and the Japanese formula one driver Satoru Nakjima was engaged in the developing of the car for the track. Honda also had extraordinary resource of equipment which it used unabashedly. The car attracted rare reviews at the Chicago Auto Show and the Tokyo Motor Show in 1989. What impressed motor enthusiasts most were the project forward nose and the low height of the vehicle. For production the model name was changed from NS-X to NSX and starting from 1991 the luxury flagship Honda car was marketed under the Acura name in the North America.

The second generation model of NSX was planned way back in 2007 and the CEO of the Honda announced that the car will be produced and sold in 2010. Honda also confirmed that the new model sports car will be featuring a very powerful V-10 engine and would be modeled on the Acura ASCC (Advanced Sports Car Concept) shown at the North American International Auto Show in 2007. The prototype was tested in 2008 but by the end of the year it was announced that due to financial restrains the project was postponed.

Again the name of the Acura NSX was changed to Honda HSV 010 GT in March 2010 and the car competed in the SuperGT Championship in Japan. It was powered by a 3.4 L V8 producing over 500hp and a sequential manual transmission. Later in 2011 sources from Automotive News declared that a new car will be replacing the NSX and also said that it would be thrilling to drive but at the same time green friendly.  But the final nod happened in 2013 where it was made known that a new assembly plant adjacent to the Honda plants in Ohio will be used to build the NSX.

Technical specifications

The new NSX for model year 2015 will be a 2-door coupe with mid-engine layout. It will be driven by an all-wheel-drive drivetrain and the car is made with light weight material to keep the weight to the minimum so as to enhance speed and performance. A V-6 90 degree design engine which will be seen in the McLaren-Honda F1 race car in 2015 will be used in the NSX. This engine mounted at the back of the front occupant will be sluicing its power to the rear rollers with the enhancement of an electric engine. With the dual clutch transmission in a hybrid setup Acura is incorporating one electric motor in the SH-AWD setup. According to Acura the supercar assisted by the all wheel drive system would provide exhilarating acceleration and fantastic efficiency. So far no confirmation about the combined power of the V6 + 3 electric motors in the NSX has been released by Acura the transmission is 7-speed manual or 7-speed dual clutch manual.

The Acura NSX is expected to make its debut in 2015 as model year 2016 somewhere in the mid-year and it is going to be a highly technical and absolutely thrilling supercar. With its high powered V-6 twin turbo and 3 electric motors it is promising to be a worth waiting super drive because it combines every day utility with pulse throbbing power. Only thing that may not go well with enthusiasts is the huge price tag estimated at $100, 000.
