Dodge Stealth information:
Mitsubishi, a Japanese automaker, manufactured Dodge Stealth sport car which was first known as Mitsubishi GTO in between 1990 and 2001. For the purpose of export the car, it was renaming as Mitsubishi 3000GT. In North America, Chrysler imported the car and it was there sold by the name of Dodge Stealth from the 1991 to 1996. Chrysler, actually, design the car accompany with his Japanese partner. The name of the car was inspired by a two door hardtop-coupe named Galant GTO, which was made available for selling in the 1970s by the company.
After the great display of Mitsubishi HSX and Mitsubishi HSR concept car in Tokyo Motor Show, Mitsubishi decided to develop such sport car which may compete to other sport cars of the times, so it developed new GTO 2+2 seater sport coupe which was technologically advanced car. Mitsubishi’s flagship car was marketed in Japan as Mitsubishi 3000GT, and out of the Japan, it is sold by the name of Dodge Stealth. At the beginning, it was decided for Indianapolis 500 race that the car would be used as pace but because of some doubts, it was substituted as a Dodge Viper. The duration of the Dodge Stealth Car’s production could continue only for 6 years. Potential buyers had 4 different trims to choose anyone of their choice in between 1991 to 1996. Base model, ES model, RT model, and RT/TT model were available from 1991 to 1993, while the ES model was not made available during 1994 to 1996.
First Generation Model (1990-1993) – First generation models which were made available during 1990 1993 were equipped with Mitsubishi’s performance improving technology of those days. It includes four wheel drive, active aerodynamics feature, four wheel steering, electronically control suspension, sport or tour exhaust modes. Dodge Stealth for US & Canada was powered by SOCH 12v V6 engine which was capable to deliver 119 KW or 160 horsepower at 5500 RPM; and its peak torque was 250 N m at 4000 RPM. Mitsubishi 3000GT Model, Mitsubishi 3000GT SL model for US Market, model Mitsubishi GTO, and Dodge stealth R/T for US & Canada were available with featured DOHC 24v V6 engine which was efficient to produce 164 KW or 220 horse powers at 6K rpm; while peak torque was calculated 250 Nm at 4000 rpm. Mitsubishi model GTO twin turbo and model GTO MR was powered with DOHC 24v V6 which produced 206 KW or 276 horsepower at 6K rpm and 427 N m at 2.5K rpm. While Mitsubishi 3000 GT VR-4, 3000GT European model, Dodge Stealth R/T twin turbo for the US and Canada was incorporated with DOHC 24v V6 competent to produce 221 KW Or 296 HP at 6K RPM and 415 N m at 2.5K RPM.
Mitsubishi Dodge Stealth was incorporated with a tunable exhaust, but it was coupled with the VR4s model during 1991 to 1994; this tunable exhaust helped in controlling the exhaust gases’ flow. There were two modes to control exhaust gases’ flow- Sport mode and Tour’. For increasing the power and performance, Sport mode was used because it lets gases flow more freely, but the car made more noise in this mode, whereas tour mode made less noise but it also reduced the performance of the car as well.
Second Generation Models (1994-1996) – The period of the second generation car started from 1994 and it continued until 1996. These cars were incorporated with different kinds of engines. Dodge Stealth for USA & Canada) was powered by SOHC 12v V6 engine which was competent to produce 119 KW or 160 horsepower at 5500 RPM and 250 Nm torque at 4000 RPM. Mitsubishi 3000GT model, Mitsubishi model 3000GT SL Spyder for USA, 3000GT SL, Stealth R/T model and Mitsubishi GTO models were incorporated with DOHC 24v V6 engine which was capable to produce to power of 166 KW or 222 hp at 6K rpm while it produced 277Nm of torque at 4500 rmp. Mitsubishi model GTO twin turbo and GTO MR models were equipped with DOHC 24v V6 which produced 206 KW or 276 horse power while its peak torque was 427 Nm at 2.5K rpm; while its Mitsubishi 3000 GT VR-4, 3000GT VR4 Spyder, 3000 GT for European model, Dodge Stealth model R/T twin turbo for USA & Canada was powered with DOHC 24v V6 which was competent to produce 238.4 KW or 320hp at 6K rpm and it delivered 427 Nm at 2.5K rpm.
The second generation models had round project fog light and projector beam headlights which were fitted into the new styled front bumper through which the second generation cars were recognized. It also had integrated blister which was used in place of the cap on the hood. Rear bumpers and side air vents were modernized; moreover its interior was redone to make it more comfortable by including a new sound system, air conditioning refrigerant and dual air bags. Cars had bigger wheels and tire. Base and SL model were incorporated with 16” wheel with chrome and silver along with 225/55 tire. VR4 model was equipped with 18” wheel with chrome along with 245/40 tire; while its Spyder model was incorporated with 17” wheel. 3000GT Spyder, a special convertible model, was also manufactured in 1995-96, and was available only in SL and VR-4 trim. It had hardtop which opened and closed by just a button. It was the first model which had such feature; but it could be made available only for 2 years because it could not be sold in that quantity as it was expected.
During 1997 to 1999, there were several models which were incorporated with the similar engines as second generation models were incorporated, but it had some minor changes as a rainbow shaped wing of arched type, and the front bumper was also new. In 1999, its exterior was renovated which had an aggressive front bumper, sail panels, and turn signals; its Combat Wing was incorporated with airfoil spoiler. In the 1999, the car was available only in the US market. Because of almost no demand, the production was stopped for Japanese market in the year 2000.
