Ford Windstar Cargo information:
An Attempt To Save The Series Turned Into A Consequential Flop
Two years after the release of the largest flop Ford has ever made in terms of minivans , a new one has been released , and hopes to correct mistakes which the original Ford Windstar featured. Regrettably, it seems that the Ford Windstar Cargo was unable to make quite an impact and change anything in regards of quality. While some of the features have been corrected and improved, it has been noticed that there would have to be a lot more than what has been done in order to make this a satisfactory vehicle.
Is there anything new about the design?
Not much has changed about the design of the Ford Windstar Cargo. Much like the original, it features the same exterior design which could be considered as pleasing. However, a change has been made in the interior design, and it doesn’t seem to be a good one at all. At least the original had a spacious cabin. Quite contrary to that, the Ford Windstar Cargo went to had to reduce the interior cabin space, making this car much more uncomfortable than it was originally supposed to be. In terms of convenience, the car is able to offer a somewhat satisfactory layout, as air-conditioning and beverage holders in the front are available in this model. You could get several upgrades to add more of these features to your car, but sadly it won’t affect the performance at all.
Can things be made better with the upgrades?
Just like its predecessor, the Ford Windstar Cargo won’t offer a lot of noteworthy upgrade features available. Even the ones which are at your disposal are not going to make such a big difference to the overall performance, leaving you able to stick only to visual upgrades and spare parts. This isn’t really satisfying, seeing as the most of the cars performances are already bad as it is. Not allowing users the ability to at least attempt to change that, delivers another blow to the overall impression this car leaves. You could get adjustable pedals, a CD player and the rear audio controls, increase the number of doors from 3 to 4, or get the tilt steering wheel upgrade. That is just about half are you can get with the upgrades, if we exclude the spare parts, because they don’t really add to the car’s look or performance.
Has the engine issue finally been resolved?
Another unsatisfactory point of the Ford Windstar Cargo lies in the engine. Even though the previous version of this car had a problem with the engine, apparently it wasn’t resolved now either. The engine is still annoying and loud, and the transmission is prone to malfunctions just like before. One would think nothing has changed, except there have been some pretty minor changes implemented to the engine of this car. The engine this particular model uses is the 3.8L V6 with 12 valves. It uses the four-speed automatic transmission, which has been known to cause trouble in the previous models of the series. In fact, the problems with the transmission have continued to be the largest issue about the car, and that still hasn’t been changed. Seeing is no upgrades can be implemented to the engine in order to make it more stable, the total power of the engine amounts up to 200hp at 4900rpm, leaving the torque to be 240 lb –ft at 3600rpm. From the specifications, you can easily see that this engine is in no shape to handle anything. Even though it was intended to raise the quality of the entire Windstar series, all Ford Windstar Cargo has been able to do until now was to disappoint potential buyers on a lot of levels.
Will it at least spend less fuel?
Where does the embarrassment end? It certainly seems that the Windstar Cargo is on a bad performance streak, and it didn’t plan to stop at the fuel economy either. Surprisingly, the fuel tank can support up to 26 gallons of regular fuel, which would be a potentially bright side of this car, if it wasn’t for a particularly bad fuel consumption ratio. The engine certainly spares no fuel, and it will continue to drain the tank at 23mpg, which is flat out horrible. This is another disadvantage buyers will certainly have to face, and seeing as this car offers almost no advantages at all, this might be as good as time as any to consider some other options.
What about the safety, then?
At least there is one somewhat stable area where the Windstar Cargo managed to reach the minimum required criteria. Even though it won’t be considered as anything meaningful or noteworthy after everything we have seen, in reality, the safety of this car has been well-managed to a point. At least it does come with the traction control, the ABS brakes and to airbags and front. So, if it’s any consolation at all, at least you will be safe through your ride in an otherwise terrible car.
Should anyone ever purchase this car?
Yes, but only as an absolutely last resort option. The Windstar Cargo hasn’t even seen the days of glory back when it was created, which was the year of 2003. It is hard to expect the it will be able to perform at any level today. It lacks some of the most fundamental features which make a car good. The fact that this was supposed to shed some light of justice towards the series is baffling, as nothing has been improved. If anything, some things have gone from bad to worse. If you’re looking for a new car, this shouldn’t be one of your first choices. The competition managed to create some of the more useful models, so with this is the type of the car you would be looking for, perhaps you should look into the alternatives first. Getting a car which is barely going to be able to perform, and will almost guaranteed certain malfunctions, ones which you won’t be able to affect in any way, you should definitely stay away from this car, unless you really want to purchase this one for some unimaginable reason. It hasn’t been able to show any substantial improvements in any area.
