GMC Jimmy information:

GMC Jimmy is a midsize SUV manufactured by General motors and the production of the vehicle began in 1993 lasted through 2005. The earliest version of GMC Jimmy was introduced in 1970 with removable hardtop. The SUV was named Jimmy because they were based on Cheverelot S10 and GMC S15 pickup truck model. The first generation GMC Jimmy was introduced in 1983 and the vehicle offered two door body style. The base model was provided by 2.0L OHV four cylinder engine and the V6 engine was an option. The diesel engine was dropped in 1985 and later it was replaced by large 2.5 l engine. In 1990, Jimmy was introduced with the 4 door version. The S-series stopped in 1991. The first version lasted until 1992. From 1992 onwards Jimmy came with antilock brakes and with 5 speed manual transmission.  The second generation GMC Jimmy was introduced in 1995 and the mid size SUV made changes in exterior as well as interior. The new version didn’t have removable hardtop. The mid size sport utility vehicle was identical to that of the Chevrolet S-10 Blazer and the vehicle joined to pick up based SUV segment. The compact SUV redesigned in 1995 end its production by 2005.

Various models and features

GMC jimmy was a popular first compact SUV sold in the market. The full size SUV marketed by GMC remained an exclusive compact vehicle during 1995. The GMC jimmy had exteriors with brushed aluminium accent and all trim level were introduced with front and rear stabilizer bars and gas charged shock absorbers. GMC jimmy was introduced to the market 2.0 liter 4 cylinder engine which produced 83hp. They also offered 2.8 liter 110 hp, V6 engine and by 1988, they introduced new 4.3 liter V6 engine. The new engine produced 150 hp which was later increased to 160 hp. The four door version introduced in 1990 offered four wheel drive and the wheel base was increased to 6.5 inches. The next change happened in 1992 by dragging the exteriors and interiors. In 1993, GMC replaced the transmission gearbox and they added an altered grille and new five spoke alloy rims. The second generation GMC was introduced as an SUV in 1995 modifying the exterior and interior of the vehicle. The compact, mid size SUV was given a rugged style with smoother lines which increased the appeal of the vehicle. The features were improved and the storage space was increased. The second generation GMC Jimmy was available with 4.3 liter V6 engine. The SUV later came in trim levels, SL, SLS, SLE and SLT. Top end trim level was introduced in 1998 with facelift and ergonomic controls. A diamond edition GMC Jimmy was introduced in 2000 with leather seat, aluminium silver plate and with specialized diamond logos.

The 1990 model GMC Jimmy offered 5.7L V8 OHV 16V FI engine with 4 speed manual transmission. The gas engine produced a horsepower of 210 hp @ 4000rpm and a torque of 300 ft-lbs. The vehicle offered optional features such as the premium audio system, automatic locking hubs, skid plates, alloy wheels, cruise control, power window, power door locks and 4 speed automatic transmission system. The mid size SUV competed against Jeep Cherokee, Isuzu Trooper and Mitsubishi Montero. The base version 2.0 liter four cylinder engine with 83 horsepower moved well. By 1995, the standard engine was upgraded to 92 hp with four cylinders and in 1986, the V6 was upgraded to 125hp. By 1990, GMC Jimmy got optional 4.3 liter V6 making 150hpand in 1993, V6 became larger to 200 hp. Later, Jimmy started considering as a more durable family vehicle. GM redesigned the SUV and Jimmy became heavier and comfortable and also luxurious to handle. In 1999, Jimmy was introduced with all wheel drive system and with various interior upgrades.

The 1995 model GMC Jimmy 4.3 liter V6 engine offered highway mpg of 22 and the vehicle was equipped with multi-point injection electronic fuel system. The vehicle offered safety features with 4 wheel ABS system , two disc brakes along with two ventilated discs. The front suspension was equipped with stabilizer bar, rear suspension and leaf springs. The interior of the vehicle was equipped with latest technology such as a digital clock, illuminated front ashtray, cargo area light, driver front airbag, power steering, rear view mirror and lots more. The 2000 model GMC Jimmy with 4.3 liter V6 engine offered on highway mpg by 20. In the city the vehicle offered mpg 16 and the SUV was packed with safety features such as four wheel ABS system, four disc brakes including four ventilated discs. The exterior of the vehicle featured heat reflective glass, roof rails, rear step, daytime running lights, body side molding and swing out rear window with defogger. The five seating SUV was packed with the latest technology such as leather covered steering wheel, tachometer, six speakers, ventilation system, driver passenger vanity mirror, internal button power locks and headlight control with dusk sensor. The 2001 model GMC jimmy offered 22 mpg on highway and city mileage of 16.

The last generation GMC Jimmy was built on a truck frame and it featured four wheel drive system. The GMC Jimmy, the mid size sport utility vehicle, joined the group of pickup based SUV and was considered as a family vehicle alternative to sedans. The trend continued until, the SUV was redesigned and the vehicle became heavier and comfortable to be used. With several suspension choices, people were impressed with modest restyle. With all improvements made to Jimmy, some reviewer’s remained disappointed with interiors. At a certain point the vehicle exhibited worst assembly and trim pieces. For some people, the vehicle didn’t offer smooth handling and driving and some models didn’t offer great safety features. With major upgrades done on the braking system and suspension, the typhoon offered great performance of 280 horsepower and a torque of about 360 pound feet. The vehicle offered family ready functionality and off-road workability.
