GMC R/V 3500 Series information:
One of the oldest acquisitions of the General Motors Company is GMC (first name being GM Truck and Coach), oldest as it came to exist as early as 7years after the founding of General Motors itself. In 1908 GMC was founded and soon after around 1911 General Motors merged with GM Truck and Coach another one of their acquired truck segment by the name of Reliance Motor Car Company. The final name GMC came as late as in 1996, after the amalgamation. GMC is presently a leading subsidiary of the General Motors group, yielding to Chevrolet branch only. The company even managed to skilfully survive the financial crisis of 2008-2009, when there were strong rumours of the company being liquidated. A producer of supreme trucks, vans, SUVs and crossovers, the company is still going strong and as a treat to its faithful and enthusiastic customers the company will soon be coming up with not one but 9 different vehicles. GMC R/V 3500 Series
An early model of GMC which was a huge hit with its users came in the form of GMC R/V 3500 Series. The two model years of its existence in the market were marked with success, performance and reliability. The 1990 R/V was essentially a base crew cab pickup with 5.7litre V8 OHV 16v FI engine. The transmission provided was 4-speed manual one and the power brakes were the most effective any had previously experienced. The 16 inch wheels are strong, performance oriented and adaptable for driving in any kind of road. The interiors again had some interesting and technologically advanced features including power steering, cloth seating, a front bench seat and manual locking hubs.
There were available several optional features in this pickup which came in the form of dual rear wheels and two engine variants. One could either choose to have a 6.2 litre diesel OHV 16V, V8 FI engine or have a go with 7.4litre V8 OHV 16V FI engine. There was available a limited slip differential along with rear step bumper and tinted glass. Alluring the customers into buying this dynamic pickup was the provision of two tone paint, a rear bench seat and that one can easily entertain oneself through the premium audio system available. Also could be arranged were other high tech provision, keeping in mind the time it was produced in, an air conditioner to make the ride more comfortable and smooth. The cruise control and tilt steering wheel present along with power windows and power door locks were certainly attractive features. These could have any consumer of this kind of drive feel satisfied and cheated of his/her money.
In order to have a smooth, pleasurable journey all one needs is a little music to accompany and this was easily managed in this GMC R/V 3500 Series, as they provided an optional AM/FM/ Cassette and AM/FM Audio system and also available was a manual horizontal sliding rear window. The exteriors of this pickup were practically developed and such as to bring about maximum performance. The length was a good 246.6 inches, whereas the width and height amounted to 79.6 inches and 76.3 inches respectively. The wheel base was of 164.5 inches. It was a passion driven model and high on performance, which can also be seen in the power it delivered. It worked with a base engine type and fuel type gas, using regular unleaded for working and delivered power of 190 horsepower at 4000 rpm. The torque expected is of 300 ft-lbs at 2400 rpm. The fuel tank capacity for this beauty is 20.0 gallons.
The 1991 version of this GMC R/V 3500 Series came with a few upgrades, all the positive revisions. The engine, transmission and the basic interior options were the same as the 1990 model, i.e. it worked with 4-speed manual transmission and had a 5.7litre V8 OHV 16V FI engine. The optional features though increased to an extent in this revised model of 1991. It had now camper mirrors and a chrome step bumper as the revised optional feature. Also available were special seats and a premium audio system, the engine options remained the same.
Also additional were alloy wheels, tinted glass and a 4-speed automatic transmission. The additional options which became part of this GMC model only added to making this vehicle more alluring and also increasing its technical aspects. The basic features including height, width and length and the wheel base remained same as the previous year model. Also similar was the torque and power delivered. The total weight of the vehicle amounted to 9000 lbs. Also the fuel capacity increased drastically and for the better, as it now ranged at 40.0 gallons.
The Latest launches
Out of the many vans, crossovers and SUVs produced by GMC till date we have had several winners and there are still many left to look forward to. The 2013 Best Buy product was won by two of GMC’s models, voted so on basis of the views of customers. These models were the Arcadia Crossover and Terrain SUV.
