Oldsmobile Custom Cruiser information:
The custom cruiser of the Oldsmobile division is a large wagon with a rear wheel drive option and came into production in the period of 1971 to 1992 in three generations and shared their platforms with Buick. This Custom Cruiser had been the first full-sized wagon of the Oldsmobile division since 1964. This car had a massive length of 231 inches and 80inches wide. But later its dimensions dropped in the third generation of the model to 217.5 inches in length and 79.7 inches in width. This car was used a family car.

The 1991 Oldsmobile Custom Cruiser was equipped with 5.0 liter 8 cylinder engine which was used for regular gasoline. This engine provided a fuel economy of 15 miles per gallon in city and 23 miles per gallon on the highway. The combined fuel economy was rated at 17 miles per gallon. This car did not have a turbocharger or supercharger. The transmission mode was automatic transmission system with four speeds.
STANDARD FEATURES AND OPTIONS:
This car first came in production in the year 1971 and since then there have been a regular updates on the features and options of this car generation wise.
The first generation was from the year 1971 to 1976 and the car was based on either B-platform or C-platform. The wheel base of the car was 127.0 inches and this was the first ever Oldsmobile wagon which was built on the largest Oldsmobile’s chassis. This generation wagon had shoulder room of 64.3 inches at the front and at the rear it was 63.4 inches. This dimension set a record which was not matched until mid 1990s. This wagon provided a seating for up to 8 passengers. The exterior styling was similar to the Oldsmobile 98. This car was equipped with a unique suspension system at the rear. Multi-leaf springs were used instead of using coil spring. This wagon used a new clamshell design of tailgate with power operated rear glass that slid up the roof. This feature enabled easy loading and unloading of the wagon. This feature was operated with the help of a key switch. This was the heaviest car ever built by Oldsmobile. It could carry a load of 5161lb. This generation car saw use of a 7.4 liter V8 engine.
The second generation was from the year 1977 to 1990. This generation Cruiser was based on the B-platform. This generation car was much lighter and smaller as compared to the previous and it still could seat 8 passengers. Two-way conventional tailgate was used instead of tailgate which was electrically operated. The standard engine used was 5.7 liter V8 while the optional engine was a 6.6 liter V8 in the year 1979. The 5.7 liter V8 was used till 1985 and after that it got discontinued. Restyling of the cruiser was done in the year 1980 with front fascia made lower. The windows and the doors were redesigned to make them lighter. The little of mechanical changes that took place was in the year ranging 1980 to 1990. The new electronic carburetor E4ME was used in the year 1980. The new 200-4R automatic transmission system with turbo hydramatic was used with overdrive feature. This gave enhanced fuel economy for overdrive range.
The third generation was from 1991 to 1992. During this the cruiser was totally redesigned which included a sunroof reminiscent at the second row. This was the only Oldsmobile with body on frame with rear-wheel drive. This car used a 5.0 liter V8 Chevrolet engine. This engine produced a power of 170Hp and gave an increased performance and also an improved mileage. But in 1992 instead of 5.0 liter V8 Chevrolet engine, was used a 5.7 liter V8 Chevrolet engine. This engine gave a power of 180Hp and a torque equal to 300 lb-ft.
This car does not provide an extra seat for child safety but it is equipped with dual airbags at the front and also has an Anti-lock braking system. It does not have a feature of running lights at daytime. A Door locks at the rear of the vehicle which is child proof is also provided in the Cruiser. It has no security system and tracking system. It claims to be a family vehicle but it lacks several safety features and this is the major drawback of the car. It has also got Latch and is also equipped with seat belts in order to protect the passengers and drivers. The safety rating data is not available.
UNDER THE HOOD:
What you will find under the hood of this car is an engine of 5.0 liter V8 Chevrolet engine which provided a power of 180Hp and a torque of 300lb-ft. This increases the fuel economy of the car. The look of the car and the interior is also quite appealing. This car has got a leather seat and audio system comprising of JBL subwoofers.
