Saab automobile AB is an automobile manufacturer belonging to Sweden and the company was commissioned when the Swedish Aeroplane Limited decided to formulate a company manufacturing small cars in 1945. The first of Saab car was a Saab 92 which rolled out in 1949. The company then merged into Scania-Vabis but after 10 years their most famous model the Saab came to the market which also became the best selling of their models. The automobile world also saw a new model of the Saab 9k during the mid 1980.
Tough Time of Saab
Saab-Scania revamped its automobile division and created an independent entity named Saab Automobile AB. General Motors the American giant later acquired 50% of the company’s interest for $600 ml and subsequently exercised its privilege to buy the rest in the year 2000 with an investment of $125 ml. Thus the Saab Automobiles became the exclusively owned subsidiary of GM. General Motors dealt for Saab Automobile AB with the Automobile manufacturers from Dutch the Spyke Cars N.V. in the year 2010. Throughout the year, company fought to avoid insolvency and finally it filed for bankruptcy in the Swedish Court. This was after the company failed to clinch the sale of the company to a group from China due to the objection raised by the original owner General Motors. GM did not want to transfer the original technology to a company from China. It was finally announced that in June, 2012 the bankrupt company was bought by National Electric Vehicle Sweden (NEVS).
Saab Automobile AB earned revenue of 6.301billion as on 2010 and had a production output of 32,048 cars. At the time of filing for bankruptcy the company had -3.126 billion operating income and a profit of -3.009 billion. During its operations the company came up with several world class passenger and sports model and they include Saab 900, Ursaab, Saab 96, Saab-Scania, Saab 9-5, Saab 9-3 sport Combi, Saab Aero-X and Second generation Saab 9-5.
Present Status of Saab
The company had its headquarters at Trollhättan, Sweden and key members of the establishment are Kai Johan Jiang, the CEO of NEVS and Karl Erling Trogen, Chairman of NEVS. As of Nov 2012 Saab belongs to the parent company of National Electric Vehicle Sweden and had an employee strength of 85. The financial details given above were only relevant to Saab Automobile AB that has been bankrupted not NEVS that subsequently bought the bankrupt establishment. Currently development work is going in NEVS and a launch is expected in the year 2014.
