There is a huge gap lying between the C300 entry level and the 2015 Mercedes-AMG C63  of the C-class range, and Benz offers the C400 currently in between. The car is quite nice and is an all rounder of the sort, but is not sufficient enough to bridge the gap between the above two. So here comes the 2016 Mercedes-Benz C450 AMG 4MATIC. 


The reinforcement being introduced by the Benz includes the C350e plug-in which would appeal to green-minded customers with luxury leaning. But for people who like the BMW 335i xDrive and the Audi S4 will be hugely interested in the 4 MATIC presented here. The C400 in the lineup will be replaced eventually by the arrival of the C450.

The C450 AMG 4MATIC as a new entrant to the segment has a lot to show as it is not even a fully grown Mercedes-AMG like the C63, but has enough of goodies borrowed from big brother to qualify for the AMG badge.  The enhancements start with the power boost which rose from 329hp to 362hp from the 3.0 Liter V-6 twin turbo of Benz and 354 lb-ft to 384 lb-ft. Distribution of torque is divided 33/67 percent for the all-wheel-drive system of the 4MATIC. Like its competition, the C450 also offers several driving modes in Eco, Sport, Sport and Sport+ which manipulate the throttle, suspension, transmission and the parameters of the steering-efforts. The seven-speed given to the C450 has the ability to shifty twice as faster than the same one given to the C400.

The C460 has forceful acceleration as the power delivery grows in crescendo and not even a sniff of turbo lag. Mercedes has pegged down the 0-60mph timing to a conservative 4.9 seconds, and when we tested the C400 it clocked 4.7. With the AWD, the C460 claws the road and stays more glued than the C63 with rear-wheel-drive with tail happiness. This is on witness when the C460 takes off from tight corners at full throttle.

The chassis of the C450 AMG is also quite impressive which has been given through workout by us through twisting and lumpy asphalt road of the Algarve region, Portugal.  A unique multilink suspension is given to the car on which it can ride, and it has adjustable dampers for stages by electronic assist, and it has been borrowed from the C63. The steering is highly responsive and quick, and it builds satisfying linear motion and gives a large amount of feedback.

The C450 AMG would have been a full-blooded model of the AMG badge if it had existed 10 years back. For the present, it only offers 75 to 80 percent that you can term it as bloody good.  C450 is the front engine and with all-wheel drive, and it is offered in 4-door body style sedan with 5-passengers seating capacity.  The basic price of the vehicle is estimated at $52,000.  It has a wheelbase of 111.8 inches and a curb weight of 3850 lbs. Top speed achieved by the C450 is 155mph and the fuel economy figures are 21/29mpg for city and highway.
