In 2014 Cadillac showed ATS-V with 464-hp and CTS-V with 640-hp and told that it will be christening its range using the letters CT for cars and XT for trucks, with a number tailing it. The changing of office to New York from Detroit was the most shocking, but the move was justified as the brand wanted the Caddy to be entirely separated from the other products of GM.

Well, the transition is already on the go, and the ATS and CTS of Cadillac boast a range of excellence which is segment defining and not found in the other vehicles of General Motors. The 2014 model of CTS a third generation product can be singled out for high praise and the sport sedan the Vsport trim especially generates 420-hp with its 3.6 Liter V-6.

You can feel the high definition outputs pouring through the steering wheel, while the chassis act like a BMW E30 of 14/10 scale. The  engine produce a sonorous note while hurling the vehicle forward and the sound is specialized only by the German straight six engines and  not the bent varieties from America. The CTS was placed in our 2014 and 2015 10Best list while we also ordered a long term vehicle while presenting the trophies.

For the long-term fleet we order the Vsport costing $59,995 because it had to trudge along for 40, 000 miles. But we did not   opt for any options. The car itself had several standard features such as the adaptive shockers, a limited-slip differential electronically operated, and also brakes from Brembo. We though it odd to opt for 20-way-adjustable seats and a third zone to the dual zone climate controllers they were not necessary.

The Vsport straightaway made an impression by stopping at 155 feet from 70mph, and offering a grip of 0.95 on the skidpad. These are bonafide numbers of a supersedan. Either of these figures could not be matched by the BMW M5 we tested earlier but with lighter weight it beat the Vsport by two feet in the braking stop and higher grip in cornering.  With the turbocharger from Mitsubishi overworking a 15 psi, the 3.6 Liter went beyond its limit and produced a 4.6 seconds 0-60mph run. And the CTS did a 13.1 for the quarter mile speeding at 110mph. Maximum speed achieved by the CTS was 171-mph.

We were reserved in our comments when we head the output figures first. The CTS claimed 420-horses and 430 lb-ft thrust and GM is a not a manufacturing firm that has mastery over turbo charging and we it had to offer was a long line of V-6 engines that were at best humdrum or dreary on a bad day. This Powerplant is something different entirely; it produces a torque that pans throughout the rev range that you need to touch the 6500-rpm redline. Sound is very much like a pure sport, as it was amplified through speakers as it is the trend nowadays.  The EPA rating for the CTS Vsport for city and highway is 16/24mpg while we observed 21mpg in our long drive.
