We have been shredding the BMW X6 for its strangeness, as it is a fastback, four-door hatch, coupe X-5 version of   SAV (Sports Activity Vehicle) from the time it made its debut in 2008. We are still comparing it with Pontiac Aztek to the AMC Eagle Spirit of 1980s though seven years have passed. For the 2015 BMW is bringing the XDrive second generation in spite of those comments.

We are sure that you would agree that it is an odd platypus of an automobile, but people had bought 250,000 units of it when they heard the siren. BMW saw enough profit to introduce the second generation X6 for 2015. BMW has also gone ahead and extended the downmarket idea to X4 while it is nurturing an X2 for 2017. Now we are left to treat the X6 as a normal vehicle, and as far as we are concerned we will take this to the track and check numbers to make some evaluation.

The wheelbase for the X6 is same at 115.5 inches found in the BMW X5 of 2014 from the third generation.  Updates have been done to the fastback design, and the car reflects the character lines from the X4 of last year. But they look good as the X6 is stretched over as it has increased in overall length by 1.8 inches. It is a huge departure from the past when you look at the interior that the BMW practice of the recent has not been abandoned, as you find a 10.2-inch screen prominently taking center place on the dash. The iDrive, considered as a burden in the past and purring smoothly as a useful utility is coupled to it. The cognac interior design worth $1950 offers black leather, blended brownish-red accents and the Fineline Striped wooden trim, which enhances the plush ambiance of the cabin.

Some drivers would consider the X6 as an old school to their taste, but BMW always offers alternatives in the name of options, and you have many of them. If the wood is old-fashioned for you, you can go for metal trim. For the same of its own vehicle, reinvention has not always worked.  Though we remain the fans of BMW’s electronic powered automatic shift lever with a complex range of choice and the side release button, it is not natural. Well, the X6 is fitted with paddles so that the driver can operate the gear selection manually.

BMW is now providing seat belt for the 5th passenger seated in the center. The earlier models strictly being four-seaters the latest one has a smaller center seat spacious enough to seat a kid and the belt is a real safety. Our test vehicle deployed a straight six with a couple of twin-scroll turbos, and it produces 300-horses and 300 lb-ft torque. The transmission offered is an eight-speed automatic with manual mode. The 2015 BMW X6 xDrive35i makes the 0-60mph in 5.7 seconds and offers a mile average of EPA-rated 18/27mpg for city and highway. The base model comes at a price of $62,850. The example we drove costs $73,150.
